Now director Farhan Akhtar is gearing up for his upcoming action extravaganza, Don 2. And as the film gets ready for a Diwali release, he accepts "the next few months are going to be important."
"We had a great time making it. For us, the best part was that we didn't have to stick to a certain storyline. We had all the freedom to go out and experiment with our fantasies. And one thing is for sure, it has lot more action than Don - The Chase Begins," says Farhan.
And since the Don 2 promo has received rave reviews, is Don 3 on next? "You know, I didn't think of making a sequel. But now, it's ready. So, I have realised that it's pointless to make permanent statements. And who knows, something else might excite me enough to take it up. Never say never," he says.
Interestingly, even as ZNMD works wonders at box-office, Farhan is yet to work with any other production house besides his own. "I am in discussion with a few producers. In the past too, I agreed to do a few films outside Excel (Entertainment) but nothing worked out eventually. As long as I get a sincere and honest vibe from the other person, I can take up the role," says the 37-year-old filmmaker-actor.
Lastly, since he has already worked with Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan (in Dil Chahta Hai and Don films respectively), is Salman Khan next on the wish-list? "It can only happen if we get an appropriate project for him. Salman is amazing at what he does. But it's all about the right film. It can't be a forced alliance," smiles Farhan.
Even as SRK starrer Don 2 is gearing up for release, co-writer Amrish Shah who has penned the sequel alongwith Ameet Mehta, says he is contemplating writing Don 3.
In an era where Golmaal has become a brand, the idea of churning sequels is the order of the day. "Don can become one of the most successful franchises. Making Don 3 will be a joint call. I am keeping my fingers crossed and praying that the movie does good business and entertains viewers."
It is learnt that Amrish wanted to begin his career with Amitabh Bachchan and even narrated his script to him. Bachchan loved the script but unfortunately couldn't accommodate dates for it.
While his upcoming film 'Don 2', a sequel to the 2006 film 'Don- the Chase Begins Again', is slated for a release in December this year, director Farhan Akhtar has hinted at coming out with one more sequel. 'Don 2 - The King is Back', an action thriller, is a sequel to Akhtar's earlier film, which itself was a remake of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 'Don' (1978).
When asked how long will audience get to see films from the 'Don' series, Farhan replied, "Film ki kahani khatam nahin hoti. Just the way Don ko pakadna mushkil hai...same way story khatam hona bhi mushkil hai." (The story of the film does not end here. Just the way it is difficult to catch the Don...it is difficult to end the story.) "I made the sequel to the first film as people were asking me if I was making any. Earlier I had not thought of making a sequel...but the appreciation and constant curiosity let me think on the second instalment of 'Don'," he said after unveiling the theatrical trailer of 'Don 2'. The film starring Shahrukh, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Om Puri, Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor. The film is set to release on 23 December in 2D and 3D formats.
Talking about Shahrukh Khan, who is also known as the 'King Khan', Farhan said, "Iss film ka King SRK hai," (SRK is the king of this film) he said. Wishing Shahrukh success for his superhero film 'Ra.One' that hits the cinema houses today, Farhan, is not bothered by Shahrukh's absence at the promotional activity. "Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hain, as he is busy with 'Ra.One'. This is justified. We did not want to disturb him at this point of a time. He is aware about the promotions being done for 'Don 2'... his involvement will start soon," Farhan said.
Shahrukh Khan
Bollywood's Baadshah Shahrukh Khan is in no mood to rest. After his Ra.One fever gripped worldwide, it's the time for the Don to make a smart entry in the scene. Are you thinking about Don 2? If so, it's your wrong speculation.
Director Farhan Akhtar has gone a step further to chalk out his plans for Don 3. While the Don sequel will be releasing this December, Akhtar has also hinted for its upcoming series after the sequel. So, we might soon see Don 2, 3, 4.......hitting the silver screens soon.
